Gold can move tens of dollars in a day, especially on news (NFP, inflation, the Fed). That's why small lot sizes and a stop loss are not optional.
The unit of price movement. On gold (XAU/USD), at many brokers 1 pip = $0.10. Always check your broker's contract specifications.
The size of a trade. On gold, 1 lot = 100 ounces: a $1 move means $100 on 1 lot, or $1 on 0.01 lots.
